All about the Placement

Often people ask me why is it when they get their piano tuned, it doesn’t hold its pitch well over time? First question I ask them is where is the piano located?

Your piano should be placed inside your home on an inside wall, away from direct sunlight, in a well insulated room. The more stable the temperature and humidity is, the more stable your tuning will remain over time.

Do not leave piano in a garage, shed, or any place that isn’t climate controlled. Try not to neglect tuning your piano twice a year. Best times to do that are the Spring and the Fall after the temperature change has stabled. This usually occurs around April & October but varies in different regions.

Anytime you know you will be performing, recording, or entertaining you should tune it up so its ready to be enjoyed by players and listeners.

Important to note your technician needs to set the pins to hold the pitch under rigorous playing as well. This will allow your piano to sustain its unisons much better over time.
